The Auckland Mandolinata Orchestra writes: Further to their Mother's Day concert 2009 - Shona Caughey's last public concert with the Orchestra..........Shona Caughey retires after 40 Years of Mandolin Playing: She has handed in her beautiful liuto to the Auckland Mandolinata Orchestra after over 40 years of playing in a variety of mandolin ensembles. Shona has been "our voice and face of the the orchestra on radio and television for many years and gave our music depth and tone. Her expertise and commitment was an encouragement to all players and we wish her well in her retirement from us and her time with her supportive husband, Bill." Diana - Publicity.
Trish writes - Paeroa Tattoo - Saturday 13 February 2010:
What a great occasion the 17th Paeroa Highland Games and Tattoo was. Following the daytime competitions the pipe bands marched down the street, with nineteen bands taking part. It was an impressive evening of contests, music and haggis! Concluding with a lone piper on the castle ramparts just after dusk it was a most relaxing and enjoyable evening. A big Thank You to all involved.

Well, having been to the Gumboots 'n Opera concert you advertised on your web site, we wanted to share some highlights. An enthusiastic audience were entraced by a very young singer giving her first stage performance, and showed their pleasure with loud and rapturous applause.
The Hamilton Country Blue Grass Band got us all toe tapping. We greatly enjoyed the new singer addition to this group, and when their violinist showed her talent with the bow, all our feet claimed Celtic ancestors. The group have been invited to perform in America; they will have to keep tabs on Colleen (the violinist) otherwise she will be snapped up by one of those Irish groups which have been impressing the world music scene.
An NZSO violinist stirred nostalgia for those musical evenings we had at home. Our great Malvina dressed in splendid opera trappings filled the whole auditorium with the grandeur of her voice and the opera excerpts which she sang. And when Dame Malvina asked the young singer to sing with her on stage the audience were thrilled to bits.
And then there was more! Malvina invited all the performers to join her and the most magnificent finale ever seen or heard covered the whole theatre and the whole of Hamilton.
